Loom & Leaf Mattress Full Review

Loom and Leaf Mattress For years now, Saatva has dominated the online mattress industry. In 2010, it was among the first mattress companies to take an online sales model approach. Saatva is fully committed to eco-friendliness and comfort. The Classic Saatva was their first mattress. It was highly successful, and they produced the Loom & Leaf mattress to add to their quality product lineup. This new mattress is comprised of several high-quality materials that help you stay cool for an affordable price.

The Saatva Loom & Leaf mattress is a memory foam mattress which is a combination of a 5-pound plant-based layer of memory foam along with other multi-layered foams and medical-grade cooling gel.

The combination of various layers provides an advantage to the Loom and Leaf mattress versus a traditional type of memory foam mattress. The plant-based memory foam works to cradle your pressure points and joints and the cooling gel help to keep excess heat under control.

The result is a very impressive mattress that contours and cools, which is aesthetically attractive without the regular appearance of a memory foam bed.

Who is the Loom & Leaf Mattress for?

  • People who like memory foam without having that “trapped” feeling – The bed contains layers of 4.5-inch high-quality memory foams that contours to your body and provides you with a gently cradled feeling without allowing you to sink too far down so that you feel stuck.
  • People who sleeps hot – Several unique features have been included by the company that helps to reduce the amount of heat that is retained that foam beds are known for, which includes the top layer featuring its infusion of gel and convoluted construction, in addition to an all-gel panel located right where individuals have a tendency to overheat.
  • People who want a luxury bed with an affordable price tag – Saatva uses an online sales model to cut out the middleman and directly pass on the savings to consumers. Saatva also provides more luxury by not compressing their mattresses inside a box.
  • People who like the White Glove Delivery Service – Each Loom & Leaf mattress offers White Glove Delivery Service free of charge, where professionals deliver your mattress, install it, and take away your old mattress.
  • For people who love Eco-Friendly mattresses – CertiPUR-US certified foams are used in the mattress, which means they are tested rigorously for dangerous chemical levels, including toxic flame retardants, ozone depleters, and formaldehyde.

Mattress Construction

This mattress is 12 inches in height with four layers, which are all made from sustainable US sources. It is comprised of 4 layers, and this mattress has clearly been designed with materials that are of the highest quality and mainly in the upper part of the mattress.

Loom and Leaf Mattress Cross Section

Cover – Made from a quilted breathable organic cotton cover, which includes a natural flame retardant as well.

Second Layer – Made from a medical-grade proprietary gel that promotes cooling and circulation. Typically, the high standard gel is used in the burn units of hospitals.

Third Layer – This plant-based top layer of foam uses a “gel-swirl” construction method to ensure that distribution is smooth. The special design comes with air channels in order to improve general cooling and air circulation.

Fourth Layer – Comprised of support layers made of high-density memory foam which acts as the core of the mattress, to provide support and foundation for the layers above. It comes with a 2-inch transition loft pad, that works vertically to offer transfer or transition, which enables the layers both below and above to work off each other to provide healthy comfort, conforming properties, and support.

How Firm is the Mattress?

There are two comfort levels available for the Loom & Leaf mattress: Firm and Relaxed Firm. The Relaxed Firm mattress for people who frequently switch changing positions and are searching for a mattress that isn’t too soft or too hard.

The Firm mattress is for those wanting a firm feeling. If you are a stomach or back sleeper, or if a firmer mattress is recommended by your health professional, then this is the mattress for you. For couples or sleepers weighing more than 250 pounds, the firm may be the best fit for you.

Motion Transfer

If you have a sleeping partner and are worried about disturbing their sleep as you move around, then you will want to have a mattress that is able to isolate motion so that your sleeping partner can sleep undisturbed.

All-foam construction, particularly those with generous amounts of memory materials, excel due to the ability of the memory foam to absorb movement and prevent it from traveling over to the other side of the mattress. In this category, the memory foam mattress performs very well.

Edge Support

When memory foam meets heat it activates and spreads out slowly, which helps with pressure-relieving sleep but is not as beneficial around the edges where extra support is needed. However, this all-foam mattress does have impressive edge support, particularly when compared to some of the online bed-in-a-box competitors.

When you sit on the edge of the mattress you will notice there is some compression throughout the comfort layers since your weight is very concentrated. But your weight is much more evenly distributed when you are laying down on your side, and you will not feel unstable or you will fall out.

Although edge support isn’t a make or break features, it still is something to consider if you have a sleeping partner or need to occupy more of your mattress’s surface area comfortably.

Does the Loom & Leaf Mattress Sleep Hot?

Each Loom & Leaf mattress layer includes some construction or material element that dissipates heat in order to keep it cool. The top layer includes cooling gel, one support layer contains the convoluted structure, and the cooling gel is positioned in the back’s lumbar region.

People who sleep on this mattress shouldn’t need to worry about overheating. However, this mattress still has some warmth to deal with during tests that were conducted. The Loom & Leaf mattress will heat up a bit, but not to the same extent as a traditional memory foam mattress does.

When it comes to memory foam mattresses, one of the main criticisms is they often exude an unpleasant smell when they are taken out of the box. This process causes “off-gassing,” which is a chemical smell and is derived from the polyurethane as well as other components contained in memory foam. Although it might not be toxic, it is not pleasant.

The Loom & Leaf mattress has practically no odor due to the delivery approach and construction of the mattress. These mattresses are not processed using formaldehyde or another irritating solution. This is all part of the high-quality of those materials that are not found in a majority of memory foam mattresses that are available in the market.

Saatva recommends that you buy a foundation as well as a mattress. However, the mattress also performs perfectly well without using a foundation with it. Saatva says that the mattress performs fine without a foundation when it is laid on a solid and flat horizontal surface, or high-quality slats that are not more than 4 inches apart. The bigger sized mattress needs to have central support so they do not lose their comfort and get become deformed. The warranty will also be impacted if the right kind of support is not used.

It can take as long as 15 days for the Loom & Leaf mattress to be delivered. However, free white-glove delivery as well as the set-up. They will also take your old mattress away for free.
